Following the tremendous triumph of Baldur’s Gate 3, excitement for a follow-up has been evident. Now, it is official: Baldur’s Gate 4 is indeed on the way. Wizards of the Coast, the publisher and holder of the license, has verified the sequel’s creation. In a chat with TheGameBusiness, WotC President John Hight shared his eagerness to further the Baldur’s Gate legacy, although he warned that the game is still in its initial phases.
While fans might be anxious for additional information, Hight underscored that his present focus is on another initiative by developer Giant Skull. This new project, separate from Baldur’s Gate 4, is a Dungeons & Dragons game designed to engage a wide audience, including enthusiasts of action and story-rich games like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and God of War. Giant Skull, headed by industry veteran Stig Asmussen, vows to offer a novel perspective on the D&D universe.
Regarding Baldur’s Gate 4, it will not be created by Larian Studios, the team responsible for the celebrated Baldur’s Gate 3. Larian’s Swen Vincke confirmed their lack of involvement, transferring the responsibility to another studio. The challenge is considerable, given Larian’s esteemed standing and the high expectations set by their previous achievements, including Divinity: Original Sin 2.
As the gaming community eagerly anticipates further updates, the acknowledgment of Baldur’s Gate 4’s development is sufficient to generate enthusiasm. However, patience will be crucial as the project progresses, with details expected to surface gradually.
