I’m roughly an hour into Whiskerwood, the latest city builder from Minakata Dynamics and publisher Hooded Horse, and I’ve already turned my coastline into a complete disaster. A smart and engaging blend of Against The Storm, the novels by Robin Jarvis, and the colonization of North America, Whiskerwood places you in control of mice establishing colonies on cuboid islands. The islands are beautiful so far, their Minecraft-esque nooks and crannies begging to be adorned with gardens, windmills, and cobblestone paths. However, you have taxes to settle, so the first thing you do is randomly sink several mineshafts, extracting coal and copper for the literal fat cats back at court.
