Grounded 2: Almost 50,000 Concurrent Steam Players Highlight Survival Achievement, New Update Plan Unveiled

Record Launch for Grounded 2: The Survival Game Excites Countless Players while Unveiling a Comprehensive Roadmap Ahead

With the unveiling of Grounded 2, developer Obsidian Entertainment has reached a remarkable achievement that seems to surpass numerous expectations. This sequel to the beloved survival adventure, where players are miniaturized to insect size and struggle for survival in a garden, greatly outshines its predecessor regarding Steam player count. Moreover, Grounded 2 has not yet completed its Early Access phase!

Obsidian recognizes this success and has already unveiled a detailed Grounded 2 roadmap for the upcoming twelve months – if not more!

From 0 to 50,000

At its highest point, 49,836 players were concurrently enjoying Grounded 2 on Steam on July 29, 2025. The peak for the original Grounded was 32,012 simultaneous players, marking a notable increase of 55 percent. Besides the Steam statistics, there are numerous gamers accessing the title via Microsoft’s Game Pass, where subscribers incur no additional costs for the game.

Its predecessor, Grounded, achieved over 20 million players by February 2024 (exact sales figures remain undisclosed); Grounded 2 is poised to be even more successful following this impressive start. We were also taken by the game during our early access evaluation.

Nonetheless, the Steam reviews still hold potential for enhancement. Of the nearly 2,000 votes received thus far, 75 percent were favorable at the time of writing. Grounded 2 is therefore classified as “mostly positive,” although it faces criticism concerning performance, insufficient graphics settings, and lag. Isolated reports of corrupted save files have also emerged.

Developer Obsidian needs to tackle these concerns swiftly through patches. However, new content is also set to be introduced during the early access duration.

A Full Roadmap

Obsidian’s roadmap outlines the direction for Grounded 2 in the coming months. The developers are hesitant to pledge a fixed timeline for the early access phase, but their ambitions currently extend through summer 2026. The roadmap encompasses new features, bug fixes, creatures, progression elements, and building options, along with a few secret innovations.

The first significant update, the Fall Update, emphasizes AXL, a cryptic boss believed to be a tarantula. In addition to its arena, armor, weapons, and furniture will also be introduced. Convenience features such as a building grid display are included.

The Winter Update introduces further technical enhancements and new gameplay features. It aims for Steam Deck verification and cross-play with Microsoft accounts, as well as the integration of ROG Ally. “Sour 2.0,” “PlayGrounds,” and “PEEPR 2.0” updates suggest deeper mechanics or revisions of existing systems.

New insects like grasshoppers and earwigs, alongside new variants of current creatures, will enhance the garden’s biodiversity. New mounts, such as the ladybug, are also set to be incorporated. In terms of progression, players can anticipate new level 3 Omni-Tool unlocks. New defenses and a “Mushroom Set 2.0” with novel furniture are on the agenda for base construction. The Summer Update promises exciting content focused on water.

Players can look forward to Smoothies 2.0, Swimming 2.0, and Ziplines, indicating new transportation methods and enhancements to existing systems. There will be new aquatic creatures and relevant equipment. The Omni-Tool will receive an upgrade to level 4.

Furthermore, the roadmap offers a glimpse into future plans that are not yet linked to specific updates. These entail more new mutations, modifications to the buggy mounts, and enhancements for them.

New creatures, boss foes, and colossi suggest additional challenges ahead. New weapons, Omni Tool unlocks, and innovative archetypes are also in development. For base construction, new building materials, extra customization choices, and the capability to relocate your base are anticipated.
