When the name Faker
comes to mind, it conjures images of legendary prowess, global championships, and the “Unkillable Demon King.” Lee Sang-Hyeok embodies League of Legends, having commanded the arena for more than ten years and secured more world titles than any other player.
In a recent discussion with Hotspawn, he stunned us with a disclosure that brought joy to many fans: the greatest LoL player ever is seemingly not so intrigued by the lavish aspects of League of Legends.
The lore is of no significance to the best LoL player
Faker is celebrated for his chilling accuracy and relentless drive to triumph. Yet outside the digital battleground, he seems indifferent to the expansive world of League of Legends. During an interview, he was queried about which champion he would prefer to see featured in his own animated series. His response:
I am familiar with the champions and their abilities, but I don’t have any knowledge of their histories or narratives. I don’t know anything about television shows either. That’s akin to asking an Iron player how to excel in League.
His other remarks in the Hotspawn interview further indicate: Faker focuses solely on the game in a competitive capacity. When questioned about the official lore books of League of Legends, now numbering two, he replied curtly: “If they’re enjoyable, I might consider reading them.”
And what about the renowned Splash Arts, those intricately designed champion images? Is there perhaps one that Faker might find appealing?
“I honestly don’t really focus on the splash arts, but I contributed to my Ahri skin, so I’ll claim that.”
Even regarding the evolution of League of Legends as a worldwide sensation, Faker remains pragmatic: “I’ve honestly never been concerned with other facets of League of Legends. However, I hope Riot’s initiatives can motivate many individuals to engage with League.”
While millions of enthusiasts dive into the narratives, series, and literature surrounding the successful League of Legends game, the Korean opts to fully focus on what has established him as a legend over recent years: the game itself, the mechanics, the victories. Evidently, he appears to be quite successful with that.
