The Master Crafted Edition of Space Marine 1 was far from excellent, which is why gamers can now return it. Following the tremendous success of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, publisher Sega aimed to leverage the excitement around the franchise with a remaster of the initial installment. However, the launch proved to be quite a calamity, resulting in repercussions. Players are able to return the game on Steam, and dedicated fans will benefit from the discount they rightfully deserve.
Return of Space Marine 1
In a Steam announcement, Sega indicated that the platform’s standard refund policies will be broadened, allowing players who already have the original to receive a discount. Specifically, this entails:
– Players have until July 10, 2025, at 7pm local time, to return the game irrespective of their playtime and get their money refunded.
– Players who possess the Anniversary Edition of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine on Steam will enjoy a 50 percent discount on the Master Crafted Edition purchase.
Important: If you own the Anniversary Edition, you must first return the Master Crafted Edition before buying it again with the 50 percent discount. The remaster typically retails for 40 euros.
The announcement also mentions: “We recognize this situation has been disappointing for some of you, and we regret any confusion it has caused. We hope this strategy offers a viable solution as we keep working on enhancing the game itself.”
Several patches are set to be released in the upcoming weeks. These will include improvements to the HUD, fixes for various graphics bugs, and a soft lock issue in one of the levels. Additionally, the game is expected to operate more smoothly on the Steam Deck. A roadmap can be found in the aforementioned Steam post, but the timing of the patch releases is currently unclear.
Warhammer 40K: Space Marine in the Master Crafted Edition is also available through Microsoft’s Games Pass subscription. There is no version for PS5 at this time, and there are no known plans for its release. The Anniversary Edition can still be purchased and played on Steam and GOG.
