Atomic Heart 2 Revealed: Creators Broaden Universe with an Even More Aspirational Game

It’s confirmed: Atomic Heart is receiving a sequel – but that’s not everything! Developer Mundfish has also revealed another title and a “breakthrough for video games.” We disclose what’s in store.

“I firmly believe this will signify a breakthrough for video games.” With these bold words, Mundfish CEO and Game Director (Atomic Heart 2) Robert Bagratuni announces the new titles from the creators of Atomic Heart during an interview. Yes, you heard it correctly: plural.

Atomic Heart 2 has been officially announced, but the MMO offshoot The Cube appears to be even more thrilling. Fans of Atomic Heart have much to anticipate anyway: The shooter is not only getting a sequel but an entire universe. And the developers have ambitious plans.

Atomic Heart 2 is poised to be larger and more varied.

While Atomic Heart is still anticipating its fourth and final DLC, the developers are unveiling their next venture at Summer Game Fest 2025: The Soviet BioShock is obtaining a sequel that seamlessly connects with the events of the first game and its expansions.

The narrative once more unfolds in an alternate version of the Soviet Union during the 1960s, in a world influenced and transformed by science and robotics.

“After the conclusion [of part 1], we aim to expand the universe and narrate what transpires following the catastrophic events,” states Game Director Rob. “We aspire to further investigate how technocracy and technology impact people’s daily lives.” The storyline will take on a global dimension, heightening the stakes.

The developers aren’t ready to disclose who players will embody or what the protagonist’s role in this universe will be. One thing is certain: we will encounter numerous new characters, along with some familiar ones who played pivotal roles in the events of the first game.

In general, Atomic Heart 2 is set to be larger and provide players with increased freedom.

“There won’t be any significant alterations compared to the first title,” the game director adds. “So it won’t be an entirely fresh experience. Enthusiasts of the first game will receive exactly what they desire and have been waiting for – plus, there will be a wealth of additions to enhance their gaming experience.”

This includes an open world where we can traverse much more freely than in the severely constrained game area of part 1, enabling us to better explore the environment and delve deeper into the story and its background.

The skill systems are also expected to become more intricate and multifaceted, permitting us to develop our main character and their abilities precisely as we wish. Rob mentions that community feedback is being considered. For instance, the combat system will be refined.

No need to worry: we won’t have to forgo the exciting abilities from part 1 either. The combat system will once again function with both hands – one wielding a traditional firearm and the other employing advanced technologies that will complicate matters for our adversaries. In the previous game, for instance, players had access to ice and lightning attacks, alongside telekinesis and defensive shields.

The developers aren’t disclosing much more about Atomic Heart 2 just yet. Still, there are some thrilling elements to share: Atomic Heart is establishing its own universe, and the tales and events from Atomic Heart 2 are directly linked to an intriguing cube…

“This is what the gaming sector has been eagerly anticipating.”

The Cube will be an MMO shooter situated in the Atomic Heart universe. Hold on! Before you all close this window: The concept appears utterly outlandish and ambitious, yet also something that even single-player aficionados of the first game might appreciate.

Following the events of Part 1, a colossal floating cube manifests in the world of Atomic Heart. This cube replicates the existing environment, yet is filled with anomalies. It won’t be long before this enigmatic object captures the attention of scientists eager to investigate and uncover the mystery.

As players, we rush towards this cube and must contend with its caprices. Because – and this is what makes this game world so unique – the cube rotates like a Rubik’s cube, altering everything around us. One moment we’re enjoying a stunning beach drenched in sunlight with serene creatures, and the next we find ourselves in an icy city where the local flora and fauna are hostile towards us.

Besides exploring the realm, The Cube also features the classic Atomic Heart combat mechanism and lets us confront a wide array of enemy types and bosses. A progression system will also enable us to enhance our characters and prepare them for the next adventure in the cube.

Incidentally, it remains unclear how many players will be able to join the server simultaneously. This will be determined during development and subsequent playtests. After all, the technical infrastructure must be capable of accommodating the influx of players. The developers take particular pride in the technology, as Mund
