Nvidia CEO: The Switch 2 Graphics Chip is "Different from Anything We've Ever Created Before"

The Nintendo Switch 2 has officially made its debut. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang seized the chance to showcase the integrated chip on the official Nintendo channel.

After what seemed like years of conjecture, the much-anticipated moment has finally come: stores have been carrying the Nintendo Switch 2 since June 5, 2025.

Naturally, the entire gaming community was thrilled to grab the sought-after console (hopefully already!). Surprisingly, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is one of those eager gamers.

He took to the YouTube channel “Nintendo of America” to share his thoughts once again on the hardware of the Nintendo Switch 2.

## Three features for “the best mobile graphics”

This announcement is unexpected, given Nintendo’s reputation for being tight-lipped about the hardware it utilizes. With the initial Switch console, we had to wait for the first teardown videos to reveal that it actually housed an Nvidia chip – specifically, the Tegra T210.

The new iteration, however, features the Nvidia Tegra T239, which Huang has enhanced with three major improvements, providing the Switch 2 with “the most advanced graphics ever seen in a mobile device.”

– As per the Nvidia CEO, these features include “full hardware ray tracing, high dynamic range (HDR) for enhanced lighting and shadow effects, and an architecture that maintains backward compatibility.”

– The second “breakthrough” is found in the dedicated AI processors capable of sharpening, animating, and enhancing gameplay in real time. The tensor cores allow for DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) support, enabling games to be rendered at lower native resolutions and subsequently upscaled using AI.

– Huang emphasizes “ultra-low power consumption” as the third feature. Nvidia specifically optimized the semiconductor process technology for high performance in a handheld device, allowing the console to be “taken anywhere.”

### The Nintendo Switch as Satoru Iwata’s legacy

During his presentation, Huang also paid homage to the late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, whose vision for a “playable anywhere” device laid the groundwork for both iterations of the Switch. “We lost Iwata-san before the launch, but his determination drives our work every day,” remarked the Nvidia CEO.
