A Nioh 3 Boss Made Me So Frustrated That I Put a Hole in My Desk

A couple of weeks back, in the midst of an exhilarating gaming marathon, I found myself up against Takeda Shingen in Nioh 3. Although he isn’t the most challenging boss in the game, Shingen succeeded in exasperating me greatly. On that specific day, my patience was already wearing thin, and the continuous defeats at the hands of this boss pushed me past my limit. In a fit of rage, I slammed my Xbox wireless controller down onto my desk. The force of the blow was so tremendous that it produced a loud crunch, and to my dismay, I realized that I had punched a hole in my gaming table.

The table, a piece of Ikea MDF propped up by two cabinets, had been a steadfast component of my gaming arrangement. However, it now showed the evidence of my frustration—a reminder of the emotional peaks and valleys that gaming can provoke. This episode highlighted the strong hold that video games can exert on our feelings, sometimes compelling us to behave irrationally.

Even though Takeda Shingen might not be the most daunting adversary in Nioh 3, his capacity to irritate me on that day was unparalleled. The experience underscored the significance of emotional regulation while gaming and the necessity of a robust setup that can endure the occasional reaction. As I contemplate the incident, I am reminded of the fervor and intensity that gaming provides, along with the lessons gleaned from moments of irritation.
