There exists an element within the core of Metamorphosis that causes me to pull back. The surface idea is straightforward to grasp. It presents itself as a 2D pixel art horror where you assume the role of a “rejected nun” who “traverses the lengthy path to redemption.” The environment you encounter in the game’s demo is oppressive, suffocating. At first, you find yourself deep within a church, which raises questions – what kind of church has depths? When you discover a mechanism, the seemingly gothic horror reminiscent of Bloodborne turns unexpectedly technological.
