
Do you recall Steam Machines? Valve certainly does, and they are developing a new version. The upcoming Steam Machine, set to debut in early 2026 (exact date and pricing yet to be confirmed), aims to erase the negative vibes from their previous effort to introduce SteamOS mini-PCs to a broader audience. This new iteration incorporates a decade of advancements in both hardware and software, taking cues from the significantly more successful Steam Deck.
While I was at Valve last month testing the Steam Machine alongside the newly designed Steam Controller and Steam Frame VR headset, I often heard it described as a superior option for Deck users who connect their handheld to a docking station to use it as a home PC. Similar to the Deck, there is only one model, exclusively created by Valve, eliminating the partner-manufacturer approach that led to a sometimes baffling array of different Machines in 2015. At the very least, this will simplify the preview process.
