The Steam Frame is a reality, and Valve intends for it to be the ultimate VR headset you'll ever require.

Valve has officially unveiled the highly anticipated Steam Frame virtual reality headset, a versatile VR kit that signifies a notable shift from the Valve Index’s emphasis on wired PC VR. In contrast to the Meta Quest 3, the Steam Frame is not merely a rebranded model but features smartphone-grade internals that pioneer a new era for playing Steam games. Built with modularity in mind, the Steam Frame is designed to be as upgradable and enduring as a conventional PC. This groundbreaking design enables it to run high-quality games streamed from a PC and simpler games installed directly on the headset.

During a recent trip to Valve, I had the chance to try out the Steam Frame alongside other new equipment, including the updated Steam Machine and Steam Controller. The experience was largely positive, although the Steam Frame’s goal of addressing all facets of the VR market requires further development. Valve envisions the Steam Frame as the last VR headset you will ever require, highlighting its potential for durability and flexibility in the ever-changing VR environment.
