Battlefield 6: Open Beta Announced, Enabling Players to Select a Contentious Feature

A test run for Battlefield 6 is officially on the horizon, with an imminent start date.

EA and developer Dice aimed to disclose further details about Battlefield 6 this summer, and it appears the wait won’t be long. Additionally, fans might soon have the opportunity to engage in an open beta, which will allow players to decide on one of the most discussed features.

Weapon Lock: Players have options

In a message on the official Battlefield X channel, the developers stated that the upcoming open beta will include playlists that offer both class-specific weapons and completely free weapon selection.

This is Dice’s answer to significant pushback from the community, which largely opposes the inclusion of this feature from Battlefield 2042. Many players favor the idea that each class is restricted to specific weapons.

During the open beta, players will have the freedom to choose between the two options, allowing both the community and Dice to evaluate what functions best in the new Battlefield.

Classes receive signature weapons

In a prior blog entry, Dice presented the so-called signature weapons for each class. However, the two playlist variants were not mentioned at that time.

Weapon bonuses for each class include:

  • Assault
    • Signature weapon: Assault rifles
    • Bonuses: Quicker transition from sprinting to shooting. Accelerated weapon switching from assault rifles to others.
  • Engineer
    • Signature weapon: Submachine guns
    • Bonuses: Enhanced control when firing from the hip with submachine guns.
  • Support
    • Signature weapon: Light machine guns
    • Bonuses: No reduction in sprint speed while wielding light machine guns.
  • Recon
    • Signature weapon: Sniper rifles
    • Bonuses: Reduced movement while using telescopic sights. Enhanced ability to hold breath. Increased firing rate with sniper rifles.

Speculation regarding beta launch

No official timeline for the beta has been provided yet. Nonetheless, observant Reddit users have discovered a beta build for BF 6 within the EA app, which according to API data is set to launch on August 4.

This doesn’t necessarily indicate that the open beta will commence, but it suggests that Dice is getting ready for the forthcoming test run. In
