The upcoming iteration of PlayStation is currently under development. Here’s what we have learned so far regarding the PS6 (PlayStation 6).
Although Sony has not disclosed any formal information about the PlayStation 6, various leaks and insights from industry experts have illuminated some aspects of the forthcoming consoles.
Is a PS6 definitely on the way? Sony filed trademarks for PS6 through PS10 back in 2019. Therefore, it is reasonable to conclude that the PlayStation line will persist for many more years.

This stands in contrast to the statement made by Sony CEO Hideaki Nishino in December 2024, suggesting the PS5 would likely have a lifespan comparable to that of the PS4.
That would imply seven years, from 2020 to 2027. Nevertheless, many factors might have shifted since this remark.
PS6: The price – what will the console cost?
What will the PS6’s price be? Initially, the PS6 was anticipated to retail between $500 and $700. Given that the PS5 Pro’s price is already $699 or €800, it is probable that the PS6 will cost at least €800.
However, a higher price is also a possibility.
PS6: What new features are expected?
<pOur knowledge here is still quite limited at this stage.
Nevertheless, it has been communicated by Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President at Sony Interactive Entertainment, that the advancement from PS5 to PS6 will be at least as notable as that from PS4 to PS5.
“Technology is perpetually advancing, and I believe there is still plenty more we can achieve.”
As a reference, he pointed to the transition from HDD to SSD storage, which notably decreased loading times and provided greater flexibility for developers.
Will backward compatibility be available? Once more, there is no official confirmation from Sony, but we anticipate that the PS6 will support backward compatibility with at least the PS5.
This assumption is based on a report from Reuters, discussing why Intel will not be providing CPUs for PlayStation moving forward.
Hardware specifications / specs
How much RAM will the console have? While Sony remains officially silent, analysts are beginning to make some initial predictions regarding the PS6’s hardware. The most debated topic: the RAM. According to Digital Foundry, the PS6 may feature 24 gigabytes of RAM, as suspected by Digital Foundry (see video below).
This would represent a substantial upgrade from the 16 gigabytes found in the PS5 and 18 gigabytes in the PS5 Pro. This would mark Sony’s first serious venture into the gaming PC arena, which would be essential for several graphical capabilities:
- Ray tracing
- Texture quality
