July begins with two complimentary titles from the Epic Games Store. We’ll inform you if you should seize them.
Update from July 10: The week is well past its midpoint, signaling it’s time for the Epic reminder. There are still a few hours remaining to claim the current free offer. This time, there’s a duo of free games that you can retain indefinitely. Read on to discover who is worth it.
Original message: The worst of the heat is currently behind us, and if your CPU hasn’t overheated, you can obtain two free games in the Epic Games Store this week. With Backpack Hero, you receive a unique deckbuilder, and in Figment, you delve into the human subconscious.
Backpack Hero
Genre: Roguelike deckbuilder – Developer: Jaspel – Release: November 14, 2023
In this deck builder, you don’t possess cards in your hand, but tools in your backpack. From over 600 items, you can create your builds from weapons, armor, shields, magic, and much more.
For the synergy effects of individual items to function, they need to be arranged correctly in the limited slots of your backpack. You can also select from various characters that offer different bonuses.
When you’re not battling your way through the rounds of randomly generated dungeons, you can rebuild your village with the resources you collect there. This enables you to research new and enhanced items.
On Steam, the reviews stand at 86 percent positive, while Metacritic provides an average rating of 76. The game is suited for players who enjoy tinkering with builds, roguelikes, and also appreciate the pixel aesthetic.
Figment
Genre: Action-Adventure – Developer: Bedtime Digital Games – Release: September 22, 2022
In Figment, you plunge into the recesses of the human mind, encountering a hand-painted surreal game world where nearly everything produces music in some form.
The narrative embarks on an emotional journey about human fears that plague the mind as nightmares. Wielding a sword, you combat the manifesting creatures. For the puzzles and minor challenges, you’ll need to employ your own intellect.
Steam users bestow 87 percent positive ratings, and on Metacritic, there is an average score of 75. Figment appeals to fans of handcrafted art and the creative use of music. You should also be prepared to engage with themes such as death and trauma.
As always, you have exactly one week, until July 10, 2025, at 5 PM, to secure the game for free in the Epic Game Store. No DLCs are offered for either game, but Creed Valley, the second installment in the Figment series, has been available since March 9, 2023. Notably, this is also still accessible until July 10 in the Steam Summer Sale for 5 euros.
