The Sims 4: Complimentary Update Permits Sitting in the Glass House, Yet Stone Throwing Remains Banned

Just prior to the launch of the upcoming Sims expansion, Enchanted Nature, the developers are issuing yet another update for the base game.

It has become routine to provide complimentary content for the base game alongside premium Sims expansions. This is also true for the Enchanted Nature expansion pack set to debut on July 10, 2025.

While the expansion centers on the introduction of fairies and nature living, the free update presents numerous enhancements for the build mode. Best of all, unlike the expansion, this free update is already accessible.

Here is a summary of all the new additions:

  • Roof plants: Who hasn’t dreamed of having greenery on their roof? Now you can adorn your rooftops and move one step closer to your fantasy of creating your own hobbit home. You’ll find roof plants in build mode under “Roof Sculptures.”
  • Improved inventory management: With new filters and a multi-select tool, you can finally arrange your Sims’ inventory. You can filter by newly acquired items, price, or rarity, among other criteria.
  • Better collection tracking: Your notebook now refreshes whenever your Sims uncover new items. A new interface has also been added for all collectibles in your household.
  • Glass walls and roofs: Sims enthusiasts have eagerly awaited this feature, and now there are not just floor-to-ceiling windows but authentic glass walls and roofs too. Your greenhouse or winter garden is now within reach. You can enjoy your glass house without fear of any stones being thrown (as there is currently no feature for that).

You can view a visual representation of this in the official Sims tweet:

The community is excited

Of course, the standout features of the update are the glass walls and rooftop gardens. There are numerous excited responses under the tweet shown above:

This is so reminiscent of The Sims 3, and it brings me so much joy.

I know I’m going to go wild with the Victorian greenhouses.

Finally! No more pretending windows are walls!

It remains to be seen if fans will have equal enthusiasm for the new Sims expansion. We’ve already played for a few hours and explored life as a fairy in nature.
