Just ahead of the launch of the new Sims expansion Magic of Nature, the developers are rolling out yet another fresh update for the base game.
It has become standard for there to be complimentary content for the base game alongside a paid Sims expansion. This holds true for the Magic of Nature expansion, set to launch on July 10, 2025.
While the expansion centers on the inclusion of fairies and life amid nature, the free update brings enhancements to the building mode. And the most exciting part: in contrast to the expansion, the free update has already been made available.
Here’s a summary of all the new features:
- Roof plants: Who hasn’t dreamed of having a shrub on their rooftop? You can now adorn your roofs with greenery and get closer to making your hobby cave a reality. Roof plants can be found in build mode under
Roof Sculptures
. - Improved inventory organization: With the introduction of new filters and a multiselect tool, you can finally tidy up your Sims’ inventory. You can filter by Newly added, Price, or Rarity, among other options.
- Enhanced collection insights: Your notebook now refreshes automatically as your Sims make new discoveries. A new interface for all collectibles in your household is also available.
- Glass walls and roofs: Fans of Sims have long awaited this feature, and now there are not just floor-to-ceiling windows, but authentic glass walls and roofs as well. Your greenhouse or conservatory is now within reach. You can enjoy your glass home without worry (though there’s still no option for stone-throwing… yet).

The community is excited
The centerpiece of the update is certainly the glass walls and roof gardening. There are numerous ecstatic remarks in response to the above-embedded tweet:
This totally evokes Sims 3 vibes and it fills me with joy.
I’m definitely going to opt for Victorian greenhouses; I can feel it.
At last! No more using windows and pretending they’re walls!
However, whether fans will express equal enthusiasm for the new Sims expansion remains to be seen. We’ve already invested several hours in playing as a fairy in nature. What are your thoughts on the free update and the new expansion pack? Will you be exploring your glass house rooms, or will your Sims be unable to reach you (anymore)? What would entice you back into the life simulation? Share your thoughts in the comments!
