In a recent discussion celebrating the 25th anniversary of Diablo 2, Chris Wilson, co-founder of Grinding Gear Games and a key figure behind Path of Exile, disclosed his upcoming project: a new role-playing game from his newly formed studio, Light Pattern. After leaving Grinding Gear Games earlier this year, Wilson conveyed his eagerness to return to a more personal and innovative development atmosphere, reminiscent of the early days of Path of Exile.
During the conversation with Diablo 2 creator David Brevik, Wilson expressed his enthusiasm about establishing Light Pattern, a compact studio focused on nurturing creativity without the challenges of overseeing a large team. While specifics regarding the new project are limited, Wilson indicated that the game would belong to the action role-playing genre, similar to Diablo and Path of Exile. Presently, Light Pattern is on the lookout for an art director, suggesting the project is in its early development phase.
Brevik, who has also shifted from managing large teams to indie development, connected with Wilson’s experience. As fans await further updates on Light Pattern’s forthcoming game, they can continue enjoying titles like Diablo 4 and the highly anticipated Path of Exile 2. The gaming community eagerly looks forward to what Wilson’s new studio will contribute to the genre.
