Hitman Developers Nonchalantly Reveal Official Co-op Mode for Assassin Game

While attention is focused on the James Bond game, IO Interactive discloses that it is developing a co-op mode for Hitman: World of Assassination.

The presentation was not what most viewers anticipated. IO Interactive secured its own platform and livestream on the “non-E3 weekend” to showcase the studio’s most significant advancements. Naturally, there was heightened enthusiasm for 007: First Light, the forthcoming James Bond title.

However, that was not the case. The initial cinematic trailer had already been unveiled days prior at State of Play, leaving nothing for the studio’s own event – not even a gameplay preview. Instead, it was casually mentioned that Hitman: World of Assassination would feature a co-op mode.

What do we specifically know about the co-op mode?

Details are still quite limited, and IOI has maintained an air of secrecy surrounding this aspect as well. Nevertheless, one thing is evident:

  • Rather than taking on the role of Agent 47, players will control assassins Stone and Knight. They have previously appeared together in Hitman 2: Sniper Assassin and the mobile title Hitman Sniper: The Shadows.
  • This won’t merely be a simplified sniper mode like that in Hitman 2; it will deliver a comprehensive Hitman experience.
  • There are brief gameplay snippets! These clips already demonstrate that players can don their victims’ attire to blend in, similar to the single-player mode. Furthermore, the other player’s camera angle is visible in the bottom left corner of the screen, allowing for continuous awareness of their actions.

It also appears that unique missions are being crafted for this mode, meaning existing levels won’t simply be accessible for a second assassin. Nevertheless, clear information on this remains unavailable. You can view a short clip from the presentation in the Reddit link above.

It is yet to be determined when the co-op mode will launch. Additional information will be available shortly.

Hitman enthusiasts can already carve the barcode onto their skulls, as they can now pursue Bond antagonist Le Chiffre from Casino Royale. However, you have only a month before the character portrayed by Mads Mikkelsen disappears again.

Interestingly, IOI didn’t reserve this information for their own showcase but announced it during Summer Game Fest the day before.
