When updates aren’t in huge supply, it’s too easy to ask the nuclear question – is CS:GO dying? It’s perhaps dramatic, as the game continues to smash player records. It appears that CS:GO will continue being updated well into the future. You’ll be able to find the latest about these updates right here.

What’s the Latest CS:GO Update?

The latest CS:GO update from February 2 was relatively small, a patch that made some optimizations to Wingman maps Boyard and Chalice, as well as Anubis. The maps are both new to CS:GO, so they’re not perfect yet with more fixes to come.

Boyard saw a few fixes with clippings and a fixed gap on a set of stairs. Chalice’s changes were slightly more substantial, remastering some art assets and lighting, and adding callouts to the map. Valve has also improved occlusion on the map to improve performance. The Anubis optimization fixes the issue of water on the map causing huge FPS drops, especially on lower-end PCs.

What’s Upcoming for CS:GO?

Valve is uniquely quiet about its upcoming plans, although players continue to speculate about potentially huge updates coming to the game.

One of the main pieces of CS:GO news fans continue to wait for is a new Operation. The last one, Operation Riptide, began in September 2021, making 2022 the first year without an Operation since 2018. Players can safely assume that one isn’t too far away, with 2023 promising to be a huge year for CS:GO with the pro scene bigger than ever.

Players continue to speculate on the highly-anticipated Source 2 update, bringing the game to Valve’s newer engine. Valve has never officially acknowledged the possibility of a CS:GO update porting the engine, however their Source 2 port of DOTA 2 continues to give players hope that CS:GO will receive the same treatment. With every update, players rush to the change log to see if it’s finally time, after years of waiting. So far, nada.
