It’s been some time since a fresh Ultima has emerged! Nearly eight years, to be precise, and it didn’t even bear the Ultima name (it was Underworld Ascendant, which we didn’t review back in the day). This is true for many franchises that are over 40 years old; they simply lack the momentum they once had. However, earlier this week, it seemed that EA (who have held the rights to the series for a long time) submitted a couple of new trademarks for Ultima. Subsequently, it appears that the creator of the series, Richard “Lord British” Garriot, is attempting to reclaim the copyright.
