The Stop Killing Games initiative is building traction as its leaders gear up for a significant discussion with European Union lawmakers. This gathering, supported by a petition that has collected close to 1.3 million verified signatures, seeks to tackle the problem of server closures that make online-only games unplayable. The initiative aims to stop game publishers from abandoning titles without offering a way to keep them functional.
In preparation for the discussion, the initiative is broadening its scope by forming two non-governmental organizations (NGOs) focused on online game preservation in Europe and the United States. These NGOs are intended to safeguard the future of online games and demonstrate the initiative’s dedication to their mission. Through the establishment of these organizations, the Stop Killing Games initiative aspires to keep the pressure on regulators and publishers to develop sustainable solutions for game preservation.
