
Some days, I feel like I would prefer to tear my eyes out rather than read yet another email concerning a new roguelike or roguelite. This perplexes me, since numerous games I adore are roguelikes or roguelites, such as Dead Cells, Balatro, FTL: Faster Than Light, and the latest Morsels, a pungent procedural wasteland that reflects the excessive creation of Rogue/rogue spin-offs in general.
Roguish games are ubiquitous at the moment. As per SteamDB, 1602 games labeled “roguelike” were released in 2024 out of 18567 total, compared to 312 out of 9655 in 2020. Mix in roguelites and the myriad of games that claim to possess “roguelike mechanics,” and I genuinely fear that you are portraying the majority of PC launches from the last few years.
