Embark clarifies: Arc Raiders does not utilize AI-generated weapons from YouTube clips; it's merely a research initiative.

Embark Studios has recently clarified that their forthcoming extraction shooter, Arc Raiders, does not incorporate AI-created gun models sourced from YouTube videos. This announcement was made by executive producer Aleksander Grøndal in an interview with Rock Paper Shotgun (RPS), responding to queries about the game’s application of generative AI and machine learning technologies.

The clarification follows a partially published interview with Embark CEO Patrick Söderlund in Edge magazine. In that discussion, Söderlund elaborated on the studio’s proprietary technology, asserting that developers could “take a video from YouTube, process it through our tools and pipelines, and [create] a 3D model of the weapon displayed in that video.” However, Grøndal stressed that this technology is not being applied in Arc Raiders. “That’s a research initiative, and that’s not something that we’re employing in the game right now,” he stated during a video call with RPS.

Although the possibilities for AI and machine learning in game development are extensive, Embark Studios is presently concentrating on other dimensions of these technologies for Arc Raiders. The studio intends to improve the gaming experience without depending on AI-generated models from external video sources.
