Steam Deck OLED and ROG Xbox Ally: Upcoming Handheld Gadgets Poised to Provide the Finest Displays Yet

The Lenovo Legion Go 2 is poised to disrupt the handheld industry and provide the finest display to date.

2025 is already looking to be a fantastic year for enthusiasts of handheld devices. The Nintendo Switch 2 is shattering records upon its release, and the ROG Xbox Ally is ready to hit the market. Yet, with the introduction of the Lenovo Legion Go 2, an exceptionally promising handheld is also on the horizon for this year.

New revelations regarding the Lenovo Legion Go 2

Our handheld specialist Linh previously selected the Lenovo Legion Go 2 in July as the handheld he is most eager about this year. His assessment at that point was founded on a series of leaks about the gadget. Now, more detailed information has surfaced.

A plethora of rumors indicate that Lenovo is expected to introduce the Legion Go 2 at IFA 2025, set to occur in Berlin from September 5 to 9. A release can then be anticipated in the two months that follow. Leaker Evan Blass has recently shared several marketing visuals purported to display the new handheld:

The pictures validate much of what had previously been disclosed through prototypes or other channels. As per these, the handheld’s specifications would include:

  • APU: AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme or AMD Ryzen Z2
  • RAM: up to 32 GB LPDDR5X @ 8,000 MT/s
  • Display: 8.8 inches, OLED, 1920 x 1200, 500 nits, 144 Hz, VRR, 97 percent DCI-P3
  • SSD: 2 TB
  • OS: Windows 11

The visuals reveal both the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme and the “regular” Ryzen Z2. This, combined with the statement “up to 32 GB RAM,” strongly suggests that Lenovo plans to launch at least one slightly less powerful and more budget-friendly variant alongside the top-tier model.

The finest display: The Steam Deck OLED also features a (slightly smaller) OLED screen and HDR, but it “only” supports 90 Hz and lacks VRR. Conversely, the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X provides 120 Hz and VRR, yet employs an IPS panel.

The integration of an OLED screen and VRR would position the Legion Go 2 as a standout in the handheld ecosystem. Coupled with a high peak brightness, it raises hopes for nothing short of the best handheld display currently accessible.

What are your thoughts on the speculation? Do you believe the market requires another handheld? Don’t hesitate to share your views in the comments.
