Hacked Steam User Retrieves Long-Lost Account After 4,712 Days, Uncovers Fantasy Classic

Something quite strange occurred to Reddit user Influence_X not too long ago. As per his statement, a hacker seemingly succeeded in breaching his old MSN Hotmail account.

The perpetrator continued to cause chaos from the email inbox. Among other actions, he attempted to take over Influence_X’s Steam account by changing the password.

The twist: the user himself had completely forgotten about the existence of this account. His last login was an astonishing 4,712 days ago!

A significant discovery

Influence_X was understandably intrigued when he became aware of the nearly vintage Steam account due to the hacker. After tackling the intruder, he accessed Valve’s gaming platform.

He was astonished: He possessed only two games. One of them brought him particular joy, as it was Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.

Many of you might reminisce fondly upon hearing this title. It’s no surprise: The action role-playing game received an impressive score of 90 points in our review back then (PDF) and remains one of the finest titles from Arkane Studios (Dishonored, Prey).

What is the age of your Steam account?

An 18-year-old Steam account deserves admiration. Let’s recall: Steam officially launched on September 12, 2003. This means the oldest an account can currently be is 21, and it will reach 22 in a month.

Time for a brief survey to conclude: How old is your Steam account? Please share your response so we can get a general sense of whether the GlobalESportNews community consists of seasoned players or newcomers.

A few examples from our editorial team: Sören’s account was established on February 16, 2008, making it 17 years old. Dimi’s account is 15 years old, Fabiano has had his Steam license for 14 years, and Natalie opened her account just in time for the launch of Alan Wake: American Nightmare – 13 years ago.

Bringing up the rear is our newcomer Franzi, whose Steam account is not even a year old. Will anyone else reach the 22-year milestone soon? We’re eager to find out!
