Frostpunk 2: Console Edition Announced

The eagerly awaited port of “Frostpunk 2” for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S is scheduled to launch on September 18, 2025. In an exciting announcement, it will be available as a Day One title on Xbox Game Pass for consoles, enabling subscribers to experience the game without any extra charges. Crafted by 11bit Studios, the game will present two exclusive Collector’s Editions: the Icebreaker Edition, which includes a pop-up diorama, art book, and novella, and the Whiteout Edition, featuring an LED shadow box, postcards, a patch, stickers, and a deluxe upgrade for all three DLCs.

Console gamers can look forward to a markedly improved interface, highlighted by a radial context menu appearing above resource piles and bumper buttons for swift district switching. The revamped UI is designed to be user-friendly with thumbsticks, making complex strategies easy to handle without lag. These upgraded controls will also be accessible on PC via gamepad in the future. The game has seen enhancements thanks to hotfixes and Patch 1.2, which added Serenity Mode, sandbox expansions, and various convenience features in May 2025.

“Frostpunk 2” takes place in 1916, roughly thirty years after the volcanic winter. Players take on the role of the “Steward,” managing New London through oil, politics, and social strategy. The main obstacles have shifted from harsh weather to internal faction conflicts. Laws are passed via city council votes, which directly affect stability or the risk of uprisings.

Upcoming DLCs, “Spectrum” and “Aurora,” will greatly broaden the game world. “Spectrum” is set for release in fall 2025, whereas “Aurora” has been delayed to 2026. Players who opt for the Deluxe or Whiteout Edition will have flexibility in costs. Moreover, the modding-friendly FrostKit enables players to design custom scenarios from the outset, appealing to those who enjoy creative strategy.
