The Japanese company may have already disclosed which classic games will soon arrive on your Switch.
Today’s life lesson: Sometimes, it’s worth taking a closer inspection.
This not only pertains to the expiration date on your food items or the fine print when purchasing a washing machine, but also to Nintendo’s promotional materials.
The Japanese company has apparently already indicated which titles will soon be accessible for its in-house N64 emulator. As always, remember that you must have an active Switch Online subscription to enjoy the classics.
Additionally, keep in mind that as long as Nintendo hasn’t released an official statement, this remains an unverified rumor, even if the signs seem unmistakable.
A long-time fan’s wish is finally being fulfilled
Since the debut of Nintendo emulators, there has been one game that fans have incessantly requested: Donkey Kong 64. With approximately 5.2 million copies sold, it ranks as the seventh most successful title for the N64 and has gained cult status primarily due to its extensive collection of items. And it appears that it’s finally becoming a reality soon!
The possible leak
originates from Nintendo itself. The company recently unveiled a trailer (see above) showcasing the new CRT graphics filter for the N64 emulator.
A Reddit user took the initiative to compare the indistinct background at 0:40 with official game covers.
This enabled them to pinpoint five classics that will seemingly be available in the retro lineup for Switch and Switch 2 owners:
- Donkey Kong 64
- Super Smash Bros.
- Rayman 2: The Great Escape
- Glover
- Forsaken 64
You can verify it for yourself in the embedded Reddit post. In our view, the connection is quite evident – the covers align with the background perfectly:

When can we anticipate a release?
A release date for the new N64 games is quite easy to predict. They will likely be revealed during the next Nintendo Direct and will be available to subscribers shortly after the announcement.
The real issue is different: When is the next Nintendo Direct? Unfortunately, we don’t have an answer to that question either. There are rumors suggesting it could occur as early as this week, but nothing has been confirmed yet. It’s quite possible that Nintendo will wait for the launch of Donkey Kong Bananza (July 17, 2025) before focusing on new announcements – and subsequently on the aforementioned N64 games.
Would you be thrilled to see Donkey Kong 64 on your Switch, or would you rather have another classic? If so, which one? Share your thoughts in the comments!
