Griefing in Dune: Awakening is on the rise – even in PvE zones, players find themselves increasingly vulnerable. With no intervention from Funcom, desperation among players is growing.
In Funcom’s survival MMO Dune: Awakening, which is supposed to have a clear division between PvP and PvE areas, players are engaging in mischievous behavior and employing underhanded tactics to ruin the experience for others – even in zones where PvP is explicitly prohibited.
## How the griefers destroy the enjoyment of the game
The tactics employed by these game disruptors are as creative as they are malicious: one particularly favored method at present is landing ornithopters on unsuspecting players who are peacefully mining spice.
**The issue:** Anyone who gets caught beneath the aircraft becomes an easy target for the next sandworm – potentially losing valuable resources or progress in the process. You can observe what this looks like in action here:
This strategy, which initially appeared in the game’s PvP zones, has long since infiltrated tranquil areas like [Hagga](https://www.reddit.com/r/duneawakening/comments/1lnop0k/griefing_is_now_in_hagga/?utm_source=embedv2&utm_medium=post_embed&utm_content=post_title&embed_host_url=https://www.gamestar.de/artikel/dune-awakening-griefer,3435495.html). Numerous players express that they hardly feel secure anymore, even if they are not inclined to engage in confrontations with actual players:
Player RandoFinder encapsulates the situation: “**It’s a battle between the griefers and everyone else on the server.**”
The primary challenge is that there is no way to safeguard oneself against this despicable approach. Direct combat in PvE zones is, of course, prohibited, but deliberately ensnaring players until the sandworm arrives is not deemed a hostile act by the game. Even more troubling is that Funcom has barely acted thus far.
Players are united in their stance: Griefing should be prohibited
Reddit user Potential-Ecstatic remarks:
Luring someone into a trap by exploiting game mechanics meant to prevent such issues, like trapping players with indestructible ornithopters in a PvE zone, constitutes griefing. Griefing should be explicitly banned. When in a PvE zone, players should not have to worry about being killed by others taking advantage of mechanics.
Gregxcorn also perceives Funcom as having an obligation:
Absolutely correct, I would even wager that harassing individuals in the PvE zone breaches the terms of service.
However, the reality tells a different story. Several players report that Funcom barely responds to complaints – even in cases of serious infractions. Reddit user Unevenflows recounts a particularly shocking instance of racist conduct in voice chat. What was the response from support?
Funcom’s official reply was: “Just block them.”
Many voices in the comments confirm that Funcom is notoriously lax in addressing toxic behavior and griefing within its games; several similar narratives are reportedly recognized from Conan Exiles and Age of Conan.
Unless Funcom finally implements concrete measures against griefing and effectively punishes violations, the options available in Dune: Awakening often boil down to ignoring, blocking – or migrating to less crowded servers. In any case, the community has little hope that the situation will improve in the near future.
