From June 17, 2025, you’ll have access to such a significant update for Total War: Warhammer 3 that even Call of Duty would show respect: 55 GB of modifications are on the list, featuring substantial adjustments to items in Warhammer 3, improvements to AI – and most importantly: the file compression is getting a major redesign.

This change will decrease the total size of Total War: Warhammer 3 by approximately 30 percent. If you wish to reinstall the game, you’ll be able to download a more compact package in the future. Additionally, this compression is anticipated to enhance loading times. The patch notes cite reductions ranging from 5 to 42 percent when entering combat.

Below, we present the key changes in mega patch 6.2. You can find the full patch notes on page 2 of this article.

Key improvements in update 6.2

Let’s recap the highlights:

  • Enhanced item progression: The patch refines the quantity of items available for your lords. The total number is reduced, but they should feel more impactful and better suited to your strength levels on average.
  • New units: The Chaos Dwarfs are receiving a new cost-effective siege unit, the Hobgoblin Bolt Throwers, while the Vampires are gaining heavy cavalry with the introduction of the new Blood Knights. The previous Blood Knights are now renamed Blood Knights (Lances).
  • The earlier mentioned file compression guarantees that the game shrinks by roughly 30 percent overall, resulting in quicker loading times.
  • There are two fresh options for the campaign AI: When enabled, smaller factions will act much more intelligently within their surroundings and are likely to persist into the mid and late game. This also enables larger factions to react more dynamically to threats and new encounters.
  • The so-called Portholes, referring to the small unit graphics that appear upon clicking on a unit, have been revamped. They should now present a more appealing look.
  • Additionally, there are numerous bug fixes and detail improvements that can be found on page 2.

MAGIC ITEM REWORK

The magic item system has undergone a total overhaul to standardize item design, balance item effectiveness, and clear up the inventory. In total, over 600 utility items (including all common, uncommon, and rare items) have been modified regarding their effects and rarity to align with our new balancing approach.

Core Changes
A new power budget system: All items will now adhere to a uniqueness/cost matrix to ensure that the item’s rarity is consistent with its power.
Balanced rarity tiers:
More distinct power variation between common, uncommon, and rare items.
Rebalanced rarity thresholds (e.g., common items now set between 35–50, uncommon items initiate at 80).
Expanded item effects: Introduced entirely new effects (e.g., generic barrier, healing cap) for a greater range.
“Status quo” approach: Powerful items will now be adjusted to their performance levels rather than being nerfed.

Improved item management
Fewer yet more powerful items to minimize clutter in the user interface.
Items designed to complement your current collection and play style offer greater diversity.
Item fusion update:
Fused items will now correspond to their category (e.g., armor fuses into armor).
Rare – Unique fusions are now achievable (with a low success rate and potential for failure).

What we haven’t changed
Updates to unique character items
These adhere to a slightly different paradigm and provide a much broader range of effects than standard accessory items.
