Following the requests of countless fans, Lego has exciting news for Godzilla enthusiasts.
In 2024, we reported that a fan-favorite model of Godzilla had entered the review phase of Lego Ideas. Now, the company has finalized that phase and officially revealed through a video that it is developing a set inspired by the design of the beloved sci-fi creature.

What’s gone down? In December 2023, user MattE720 presented a design on the Lego Ideas platform. Just under a year later, he achieved the significant milestone of 10,000 supporters, advancing the model to the review phase.
During this stage, Lego evaluates which designs will form the basis for future Ideas sets, making them available in stores in a revamped version. The third phase of 2024, which included Godzilla, has now reached completion. A total of 54 designs were evaluated, but only four were selected.
Godzilla is a go: The winners have been revealed, and one of them is Godzilla. MattE720 should be especially delighted, as he submitted an earlier version of the model back in January 2021. The redesign proved to be worthwhile. Also entering development: the Campingtrip, the TinTin rocket, and the Downton Abbey castle. A brief video showcasing the designs can be viewed on Lego’s platform.
What criteria must be satisfied? Lego has released a list of criteria that will significantly impact the selection of winners.
- Sets currently available on the market
- Products already in the development pipeline
- Opportunities for licensing
- Production capabilities
- Quality of construction
- Feasibility
- Playability
- Projected demand
What’s next: Lego is now refining the design to align with its specifications. The aforementioned criteria will likely play a crucial role during this process. Ultimately, the product must be introduced in a manner that maximizes profitability for Lego as a business.
With revisions underway, it’s always intriguing to see which aspects of the design will be removed and what new features might be incorporated. For instance, the retail version might forgo the laser beam due to different production requirements or its incompatibility with the existing concept. Meanwhile, it’s possible that a small sign could be included as well.
This isn’t the only exciting update from the vibrant realm of building bricks. Lego recently astonished fans with the announcement of a new Simpsons set that allows users to construct Krusty Burger for the first time.
