For Mafia: The Old Country, the series revisits the beginnings of its iconic role models. The Sicily of 1900 is depicted as the place “where it all started,” as the trailer eloquently expresses.
The new backdrop, removed from metropolitan areas, posed a creative challenge for the developers at Hangar 13. To ensure everything was as authentic and historically precise as possible, the team undertook a thorough study of real Sicily. They referenced the scarce photographs from around 1900 that have survived, which served as significant inspiration for art director Steve Noakes.
Sicily stands out for its blend of various architectural styles across different periods. This necessity drove the developers – along with their Italian partner studio Stormind – to explore museums, cities, and rural regions in Sicily. Additionally, even minor details such as the knives in the game required authenticity, prompting the team to consult with local traditional blacksmiths.
Mafia: The Old Country is set to launch on August 8, 2025, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
