With more than 200 sites to discover, encompassing caves, strongholds, and Ayleid relics, keeping track of your whereabouts in Oblivion Remastered can be challenging. Fortunately, a minor mod ensures this doesn’t occur.
Anyone navigating the paths of Cyrodiil in Oblivion Remastered will encounter strongholds, caverns, or bandit hideouts every few steps. In total, over 200 locations are ready to be found and explored.
As we continue to play, it becomes increasingly likely to lose sight of places we’ve already visited. This is due to the absence of indications on the map showing whether we have already thoroughly examined a location. However, a mod now offers exactly this capability.
## Dungeons to check off
The mod created by rebeccathedragonborn named [Map Icon Completion Markers](https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivionremastered/mods/3786?tab=description) is fundamentally straightforward. After installing it, we simply access the world map and hold down Shift while hovering the mouse over the icon of a site we’ve already explored.
The relevant icon then turns transparent, clearly distinguishing it from other locations. Once we complete our exploration of a site, we can mark it, eliminating the need to consider whether we have previously visited or merely activated the fast travel point.
We have personally installed the mod and conducted a brief test: at least for us, it operates seamlessly, although some players have reported sporadic issues such as crashes. If you experience crashes post-installation, this can be resolved by reverting to an earlier version (1.03) or by simply uninstalling the mod.
## How to install the mod
If you wish to try the mod independently, we’ll succinctly outline everything you need to know. The simplest method to install it is to first obtain a mod manager like [Vortex](https://www.nexusmods.com/site/mods/1). This program transfers all files to the desired directory and enables you to activate and deactivate the mod whenever you wish. Manual installation is, of course, an option as well.
**You must adhere to these steps in all cases:**
1. [Download UE4SS](https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivionremastered/mods/32?tab=description). This tiny tool activates certain mod functionalities and is a crucial prerequisite for the map marker mod.
– **Installation on Steam:** Right-click on Oblivion Remastered within your game library on Steam. Choose “Manage,” then “Browse local files.” From this folder, proceed to *OblivionRemasteredBinariesWin64*. Unzip the file you downloaded from the mod page into this folder.
– **Installation via Game Pass:** Right-click on Oblivion Remastered in your game list within the Xbox app. Select “Manage,” then the “Files” tab, followed by “Browse.” In the game folder, navigate to *OblivionRemasteredBinariesWinGDK*. Extract the zip file you downloaded from the mod page into this folder.
2. Download [Map Icon Completion Markers](https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivionremastered/mods/3786?tab=description).
3. Reopen the Oblivion Remastered installation folder and go to *OblivionRemasteredBinariesWin64ue4ssMods*. Unzip the *MapIconCompletionMarkerMod* folder here.
That’s it; the mod should now function correctly. Should you encounter any issues, kindly refer to the description and comments on the mod page to ensure you haven’t made an error.
Although nearly 3,000 mods have already been released for Oblivion Remastered, an official patch remains forthcoming. While developers have gathered feedback for enhancements from players, no announcements have yet been made regarding which of these will be implemented or when.
