PMGC 2022: Group stage format and all three groups

The PMGC 2022’s longest stage is the Groups. It will happen across three weeks from Thursday to Sunday from Nov. 10 to 27. The 48 teams have been split into three groups, namely Red, Green, and Yellow, of 18 teams each for this stage.

The groups were determined through a group stage draw which happened on Oct. 26. Each group will compete separately across the three-week group stage. The schedule is as follows:

  • Nov. 10 to 13: Red Group
  • Nov. 17 to 20: Green Group
  • Nov. 24 to 27: Yellow Group

Each week, the teams will play six matches per day for a total of 24 matches. The top three teams will make it to the grand finals. The bottom five, on the other hand, will be eliminated from the PMGC. The remaining eight teams will move to the Survival Stage.

The groups are as follows:

Which one is the PMGC League Stage’s group of death?

All three groups are stacked with the best teams from around the world. However, one group particularly stands out for being too overpowered, and that is Group Green. It is most certainly the Group of death at the PMGC League Stage. The two teams that instantly stand out in it are Vampire Esports and Nova Esports.

Both teams are two of the favorites to win the entire PMGC, let alone the group stage. Vampire won the previous international tournament for PUBG Mobile, which was the World Invitational (PMWI) in Saudi Arabia.

Tencent had divided the PMWI into two events: the Main Event and the Afterparty Showdown. Vampire placed first in both.

Nova, on the other hand, are the defending back-to-back PUBG Mobile world champions. They are coming into the tournament to do what no other PUBG Mobile team has managed in the game’s history: become a three-time world champion. They are coming in hotly as well, having recently placed second in the PUBG Mobile Regional Clash (PMRC) between China and Southeast Asia.

Other than this, the group houses Alpha7 Esports, who placed second in the PMWI Afterparty Showdown. Most recently, they placed second in the PMPL Americas Championship.

Additionally, the group has two PMPL Regional Championship winners and three PMPL champions. These are as follows:

  • Knights: PMPL NA Fall 2022 Champion
  • INCO Gaming: PMPL Brazil Fall 2022 Champion
  • One Million Esports: PMPL Africa Fall 2022 Champion
  • Stalwart Esports: PMPL South Asia Fall Championship winner
  • LVVP: PMPL European Fall Championship winner

There’s a lot of firepower in Group Green – and fans could certainly see a few upsets in the group stage. You can watch the PMGC live from Nov. 10 on the PUBG Mobile Esports YouTube channel.
