On November 16th, Call of Duty: Warzone 2 will be released, and the community is already highly excited. It has been almost three years since Warzone launched, and for a while, there have been concerns that the platform is dying. When it is finally released, Warzone 2 will bring a new engine, an all-new map, countless new features, and exhilarating gameplay. Today, we’re looking at the game’s launch and answering an all-important question, ‘will Warzone 2 be free?’
As one of the best battle royale games in the business, Warzone enjoyed massive growth in a relatively short period of time. It surpassed 100 million players with ease, and it quickly became one of the most popular games of all time. With Warzone 2, players will be dropping in on an entirely new platform, which features an ambitious reworking of the existing battle royale platform.

Will Warzone 2 be Free to Play?

Since day one, Warzone has been free-to-play, and that’s the main reason why it blew up as fast as it did. Fortunately, that model will continue in Warzone 2, as, from the get-go, it will be totally free to download, play, and enjoy the game for as long as you so desire.
However, that doesn’t mean that the entire game is free – and neither was the first Warzone title. There’s a paid battlepass that players can pick up once every few weeks. It’s one of the most common features in free-to-play games, and it enables players to work their way through a ‘season’, unlocking content as they go. There are also bundles published regularly that players can buy using real-world money that deliver things such as weapon blueprints and operator skins.
This is the same regardless of your platform of choice, so:
- Will Warzone 2 be free on PS4? Absolutely.
- Will Warzone 2 be free on Xbox? It definitely will.
- Will Warzone 2 be free on PC? You bet your last dollar it will be.
There’s certainly a trend there that’s easy to recognise, as we’re sure you’ll agree. It doesn’t matter if you’re playing on PS5, Xbox Series X, or soon, on mobile devices, Call of Duty Warzone 2 will be totally free to play. It’s fantastic, as it means you can focus on learning how to get better at Warzone without paying a penny.
How Can I Play Warzone 2?

Now that we’ve established that the Warzone 2 price is a grand total of absolutely nothing, let’s look at how you can actually get your hands on it. When Warzone 2 launches on the 16th of November, all you’ll need to do is navigate to the storefront of your choice and hit ‘download’ or ‘install’. For PC players asking ‘will Warzone 2 be on Steam’, we can almost certainly confirm that it won’t be.
To this day, Warzone (2020) isn’t on Steam, and PC players must use the Battle.net launcher if they wish to play it on their PC platform. It isn’t much of an ask, as the launcher is quite easy to navigate and use. If you’re using a PlayStation or an Xbox platform, it’s even easier to download and install the game.
So, will Warzone 2 be easy to get hold of? Yes, it will. And will Warzone 2 be free? Definitely.
Once Warzone 2 launches in November, the competitive Call of Duty season kicks off in full. In December, the countdown 2023’s CDL Championship begins, as does the run-up to the next season of the World Series of Warzone.
