The ball will roll again in July during the Women”s World Cup, but FIFA 23 will also start the tournament a month earlier

FIFA 23 will not only get one World Cup update in the course of its life cycle, but two! After the men”s World Cup took place in Qatar in November 2022, it”s now the women”s turn in the summer of 2023 to compete in the tournament in Australia and New Zealand.

In reality, the first match of the tournament will kick off on 20 July, but the new update for FIFA 23 is set to hit as early as the end of June Included are new teams as well as several free game modes.

Teams

The update will be completely free of charge, but will bring quite a bit of new content. Most importantly, of course, are the women”s national teams, which did not previously exist in the game, but will compete in the tournament. The following teams are all included:

Total, then, of the 32 teams, 20 are completely new, with the previously existing ones boasting revamped kits, squads and fan choreos.

Game Modes

As usual, the World Cup update also introduces new game modes with which we can put our own stamp on the World Cup. A total of three World Cup modes have been announced, one of which is relatively new. Not complete, but we”ll get to that.

• Tournament mode:
  In this mode, you choose one of the 32 teams and then lead the players to the trophy. However, only the final round is available to you here, you cannot work your way through the qualifiers with a team beforehand.
• Lead Your Country:
  The update”s new mode introduces a variant that didn”t exist at least in the Men”s World Cup, but did in previous World Cup games. Here, you decide which player you want to embody during the World Cup. You can even create your own player and shoot your favourite country to the World Cup. Similar modes have existed in the past, but at least as women we have never been able to experience the World Cup in this way.

• Bump mode:
  There will also be a dedicated kick-off mode where you simply select two teams from the World Cup teams and then play against the AI or against friends.

A live mode like in the Men”s World Cup has not been announced yet. Either because this mode is not available this time or because the update will be released a month before the first match day of the tournament. It is possible that this feature will be added later, but we would not bet on it.
