At Project Sirius, The Molasses Flood studio has to go back to the drawing board. CD Projekt Red has apparently ordered a reboot of development.

In the next few years we ll be blossoming with a whole range of new Witcher games – but not every one of them will come from CD Projekt Red. For example, the studio The Molasses Flood is working on Project Sirius: a multiplayer game set in the Witcher universe.
However, the project does not have too many details or even a release date. And fans may have to wait a little longer for that. Because as it now turns out, the development of Project Sirius seems to be starting from scratch again.

Project Sirius must go back to the drawing board

What is happening at Project Sirius? The announcement that the development of Project Sirius is being reconsidered comes from (CD Project Red itself). The decisive factor for the decision is the previous costs of the development: in 2022 about 7 million, in 2023 about 2 million were invested in the project – this would burden the company accordingly.

Now they want to re-evaluate the framework of the planned multiplayer game and take into account the scope and commercial potential of Project Sirius. Since CD Projekt Red”s formulations remain very vague in this regard, it is hardly possible to draw any meaningful conclusions.

What was known about Project Sirius so far? As already mentioned: Not too much. The Molasses Flood previously worked on games like The Flame in the Flood and Drake Hollow. Project Sirius is supposed to be a multiplayer game that appeals not only to RPG fans but also to a broader audience – which, by the way, Hexer expert Steffi has already analysed in detail.

Job postings for the project let fans speculate that Project Sirius will be a kind of Witcher division with co-op, PvE, a class system and procedurally generated elements. At the same time, there is talk of non-linear and cinematic storytelling. Whether these basic ideas will change with the new development start cannot be said at the moment.
