Arcane – Who is Jayce?

Jayce is a scientist and innovator, and the current Head of the Council of Piltover. He is one of the first characters introduced in Arcane when his lab is ransacked by Vi, Jinx and their gang in the opening episode.

The love for research was imprinted since the early days of Jayce’s life after a cloaked man who used magic saved his mother. Together with Viktor, Jayce continues to explore the world of Hextech, despite going against the wishes of Heimderdinger and the rest of the council.

Their forbidden research turns out to be successful, coming up with an incredible breakthrough of the Hextech Gates that brought Piltover to great prosperity. These transformed the city into a center of trade, allowing travel over great distances possible.

Jayce continued to work on making new Hextech advancements: the hex gemstones. Heimerdinger deemed them too powerful and was contrary at releasing them to the public, while councilor Medarda, wanted the opposite. While Jayce was conflicted and confused, though, Jinx initiated a terrorist attack on Piltover, stealing one of the precious gemstones.

This caused great rants in the council and the fear that Zaunite would use the gemstones to create weapons and attack Piltover. For Jayce, the love for research and the idea of doing things for the greater good brought potential danger to Piltover.

How Old is Jayce in Arcane?

There is a major time jump during the show. Jayce was 24 years old when he appeared in Act 1, and then between 30 and 31 years old in the following two.

Jayce and Viktor’s Relationship

The two have a particular relationship in Arcane, as the two partners shared the same love for Hextech Research. That said, towards the end of the first season, the friendship between the two seemed to crumble… We’ll have to see how it will evolve in Arcane season 2.

How is Jayce different in Arcane from LoL?

While League lore is connected to the Arcane storyline, there are some differences between the two. In LoL, Jayce is described as an arrogant, dismissive character, and someone who wouldn’t slow his pace when it comes to research. To put it simply, an extremely dislikeable character.

In Arcane, though, he doesn’t seem to be disliked to the same extent. He looks confident and self-absorbed in his work, but he doesn’t seem to have the double attitude described on the League lore.
