AoE 4 Season 4 is finally starting – and unexpected, magical surprises await. We show you everything that’s in the new Enchanted Grove event

Today we’re off: Age of Empires 4 launches into the new Season 4 – and this one brings some new content that you might expect to find in the Age of Mythology remake rather than the historical strategy game.

What’s new in Season 4 of AoE 4 and what’s behind the new fantasy setting, we explain in this article.

In AoE 4 it suddenly becomes magical

What is this event? Today, February 16, 2023, marks the start of not only Season 4, but also the Enchanted Grove event in Age of Empires 4. Until March 29, 2023 you now have time to bag new rewards that are literally magical – because the event has a surprising fantasy setting.

The namesake Enchanted Grove is a new biome that features glowing shrubs, colourful trees and dim lighting. Also waiting there is a ghostly stag that you can hunt down with your villagers and use as a food source. If you successfully hunt the elusive creature in a skirmish or multiplayer game, you will unlock the Monument of the Golden Stag.
You can also complete other challenges to earn additional cosmetic rewards, such as portraits for your profile, all of which can be seen in the following overview:

More new features in AoE 4 – Season 4

Besides the Enchanted Grove Event, there are many other new features and changes for the start of Season 4 – the most important ones are listed below:

  • New game mode: The new Nomad mode lets you start with three villagers who are spread far apart on the map. Quickly build the village centre for a time advantage or search for the perfect position first? That’s up to you.
  • New Maps: A total of three new maps come into play. Four Lakes has islands at each corner separated by a cross-shaped landmass.  Continental is a large landmass surrounded by water, with islands at each corner of the map. Marshland is an open map with jungle that gives you many opportunities to hide and ambush enemies.

  • Landmark Rework: Some weaker landmarks are buffed, strong and popular landmarks such as the Golden Gate of Rus remain untouched.
  • Improved Mod Browser: The browser now has a dynamic search that returns results as soon as you start typing and should give you more relevant search results overall. You can filter your results by popularity and turn on a filter that only shows you official mods.

What do you say: Do you think a fantasy setting with magical deer is cool? Or is it totally inappropriate for a historical real-time strategy game like Age of Empires 4? Write it down in the comments section!
