The new Resurgence map for Call of Duty: Warzone 2 takes over from Rebirth Island. We answer the most important questions about the small map Ashika Island.

Rebirth Island will not be returning in Warzone 2. However, the popular small map from the predecessor is getting a fancy new heir: Ashika Island emerges from the sea with Season 2! Ashika instead of Rebirth: Important questions about the new Resurgence map

Release: When can I land on Ashika Island?

The new map will be available at the start of Season 2 for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, i.e. from 15 February 2023. What else is in the big Season Update, you can see here:

The developers have revealed the most important locations and points of interest. You should definitely take a closer look at these locations once the map is live. Tsuki Castle might look familiar to series veterans, apparently the castle map from Vanguard’s multiplayer was placed here. Have a look at the gallery with all pictures of Ashika Island:

Changes: What’s different on Ashika Island?

In contrast to the large map Al Mazrah, the island is very compact, just like Rebirth Island before. This time you can swim and dive in the sea as long as you don’t paddle beyond the map boundaries. The water battles are one of the new features in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.

Game Modes: What does Ashika Island offer?

Resurgence: This action-packed mode was extremely popular in the predecessor. It is a faster version of Battle Royale, with respawns instead of gulags. A kill does not mean the end: as long as your team lasts long enough, you return to the game after a short waiting period. Only when a squad is completely eliminated will its members be kicked out.

(You keep jumping off over the Resurgence Map as long as your comrades are alive.)

DMZ: The DMZ extraction mode is also available on Ashika Island from Season 2. By now it is clear: You can play DMZ on Al Mazrah as well as on Ashika, so it is an additional map option – and not a move.

DMZ will change a lot more in Season 2 – for example, your earned progress will be reset. This pissed off many fans, but in the meantime the developers have backed off a bit.

What else is happening in Call of Duty?

How do you like the newly revealed Japan map Ashika Island so far? Do you think the returning Resurgence mode will breathe new life into Battle Royale in Season 2, or are you hoping for all-new game modes instead? Feel free to write us your opinion in the comments.
