Capcom has effectively breathed new life into the Resident Evil franchise over the last ten years with a variety of remakes. Among these remakes are Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4, in which Capcom has not only upgraded the graphics and refreshed the cutscenes but also added new elements to the original survival horror narratives. Looking forward, Capcom intends to unveil a remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica in 2027 and is said to have a Resident Evil 0 remake in the works for 2028, featuring talent from the Guardians of the Galaxy video game.
Nevertheless, this approach of remaking beloved titles poses a possible hurdle: Capcom might soon deplete its collection of original games ripe for remakes. With the forthcoming and speculated projects, only Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 will remain before entering the “modern era” signaled by Resident Evil 7. This edition introduced the sophisticated RE Engine, which has been used in the remakes. As Capcom nears this point, the company is reportedly gearing up for an enigmatic crossover event where the timelines of these games converge.
