Everything you need to know about Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

When is the release?

On March 17, 2023, the Jedi adventure will be released. A postponement is currently not expected, but that can hardly be confidently claimed these days. As a reminder, the first part was released in late 2019. So Jedi: Survivor has been in development for just over three years.

What do the pre-order bonuses look like?

You can already pre-order the adventure game and unlock a few additional benefits. In total, there are three different bonuses guaranteed to pre-orderers:

  • A cosmetic hermit outfit reminiscent of Obi-Wan Kenobi”s robe.
  • A cosmetic lightsaber hilt also inspired by Obi-Wan.
  • A blaster called Combustion, used primarily by outlaws.

But remember that at GlobalESportNews we generally advise against pre-ordering games. Rather wait for first tests before you decide to buy prematurely and then get angry about it.

Which editions are available?

At the moment there are only two different editions for the adventure game, both of which you can already pre-order. The normal edition costs 70 euros and includes the base game, while the deluxe edition for 90 euros offers the following additional content.

  • The Cosmetic Pack Galactic Hero
    • An outfit inspired by Han Solo.
    • A colouring for BD-1 reminiscent of the battered Millennium Falcon.
    • The DL-44 blaster as used by Han Solo.
  • The cosmetic package New Hero
    • An outfit inspired by Luke Skywalker.
    • A colouring for BD-1 reminiscent of R2-D2.
    • A lightsaber hilt reminiscent of Luke and Anakin”s saber respectively.
(If you spend 20 euros more, you get the Deluxe Edition with new content.)

By the way, those who want to dig deeper into their pockets can also get the Collector”s Edition of Jedi: Survivor. However, it is very unlikely that you will get one of these. (This edition is only offered at limited runs) and is very limited. Inside the $300 box, in addition to the Deluxe Edition of the game, is a replica of Cal Kesti”s lightsaber hilt, a magnetic box for the hilt, a certificate of authenticity, and a steelbook case.

(The Collectors Edition costs 300 Euros, but is already completely sold out in the store.)

For which platforms will the game be released?

Jedi: Survivor is a next-gen title that will be released on both PC and current consoles. Older generations such as PS4, Xbox One or even the Nintendo Switch will have to do without it. The following platforms are planned:

  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X/S
  • PC

By the way, if you have a subscription to EA Play, you don”t have to buy Jedi: Survivor. The game is part of EA”s product range and will be integrated into the subscription service directly at release. So if you subscribe to EA Play Pro on a monthly basis, you can start playing straight away with the Deluxe Edition. With the standard version of EA Play, you can spend at least 10 hours in Jedi: Survivor, which is also included in Microsoft”s Game Pass.

What do we already know about the gameplay?

Like the first part, Jedi: Survivor remains an accessible mixture of Soulslite and Metroidvania. However, the latter in particular is to come to the fore even more in the sequel through a multitude of new gameplay possibilities. It is therefore possible and desired that we revisit planets that have already been completed with Cal in order to master new challenges, experience new stories or discover hidden treasures.

The gameplay trailer already gives you a good impression of how it all plays.

Fights

The heart of the game remains the systematic battles, in which we must always remain vigilant despite the Force and lightsaber and should not underestimate any opponent. In the second part, many more fighting styles are added, with which different opponents can be better cracked. There are a total of five fighting styles:

  • Single Blade: By default, Cal fights with a single lightsaber, but he knows how to wield it purposefully and swiftly.
  • Double Blade: Cal can activate a double blade, made famous by the Sith Darth Maul.
  • Two Blades: Cal can now permanently wield two lightsabers at once.
  • Blaster: Cal can access a blaster in addition to his saber and even wield it simultaneously with his saber.
  • Crossguard: Cal also gets a new sword, with a laser parry bar. This two-handed sword is a particularly heavy weapon that attacks sluggishly, but packs a particularly heavy punch.

Companion

Cal Kestis is rarely all alone in Jedi: Survivor. But he was never lonely anyway, thanks to the helpful droid BD-1. Now, however, he is often supported by other people, some of whom even act independently. The most important new companion is a mercenary named Bode Akuna, with whom Cal shares a brotherly friendship. Together with Cal, Bode attacks enemies and supports him in overcoming obstacles in the game world.

Movement

Besides Bode, Cal gets even more possibilities with which he can cross the game world faster or more efficiently. In doing so, Cal does not only resort to the Force, but also has new gadgets in his luggage. The most important will be a hauling rope, with which he can quickly cover large distances. In addition, Cal can man vehicles or tame animals, which he then rides through the area.

What is the story about?

Not much has been revealed about the plot and of course we don”t want to spoil anything. But we already know the rough starting point. According to this, five years have passed since Fallen Order and Cal Kestis is still on the run from the Empire”s henchmen. However, he has probably not kept a low profile, but has repeatedly got in the Empire”s way. That, in turn, has consolidated his position of power and is at its peak at this time. Incidentally, Jedi: Survivor is set almost at the same time as the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi, so some fans are expecting an appearance by the old Jedi Master.

Similar to the series, the Grand Inquisitor also seems to make an appearance, even if he does not appear as the main antagonist. Whether Cal will have to deal with Vader again this time is unknown. We hope for his sake that he avoids the Sith Lord.
