Sony has declared that the PlayStation 5 shortage is over. The company recently held its CES press conference featuring several announcements, but there was one that stood out. Sony Interactive Entertainment president Jim Ryan said during the presentation that “Everyone who wants a PS5 should have a much easier time finding one at retailers globally, starting from this point forward.”

PlayStation 5’s production was affected due to chip shortages in the past couple of years. Back in 2021, company CFO Hiroki Totoki stated that the shortage would continue till 2022. This surely comes as good news for fans who have been trying to get their hands on the product.

PlayStation 5 sells over 30 million units

Also confirmed today: December was the biggest month ever for PS5 console sales, bringing the total to more than 30 million units sold worldwide.

During the presentation, Sony announced another milestone. Their next-generation PlayStation 5 had sold 30 million units worldwide. PlayStation 5 was released in November 2020 and it became Sony’s fastest-selling console within a year of its launch by selling 10 million units. By February 2022, PS5 had sold over 17 million units and by November 2022, that figure rose to 25 million units.

Jim Ryan said “We truly appreciate the support and patience of the PlayStation community as we managed unprecedented demand amid global challenges over the past two years. PS5 supply improved toward the end of last year, and I’m happy to share that December was the biggest month ever for PS5 console sales and that we have now sold than 30 million units through to consumers worldwide.”
