In just a few hours, it outpaced several prominent titles in player counts. Nevertheless, one critique of the game is becoming evident.
For significant launches, it’s always advisable to check Steam to evaluate how well the release is performing. Regarding Hollow Knight: Silksong, we can confidently say: Indeed, it’s going quite well.
We’re downplaying it. Within 24 hours of its launch, Silksong has already attained 18th place among the most played Steam games ever (source: SteamDB). On its victorious journey, the indie sensation has also pushed some renowned titles down the ranking.
All smooth sailing? Not exactly. It’s becoming clearer that one element is causing frustration for many players.
The figures: Impressive!
Let’s be frank: Just in time for the launch on September 4, 2025, at 4 p.m., the frenzy for Silksong was so intense that both Steam and the Nintendo eShop momentarily went down.
Once the situation stabilized, an astonishing peak of 535,213 players were exploring the realm of Pharloom concurrently. This indicates that Silksong has already outclassed titles like Battlefield 6 Beta and Call of Duty on Steam – although it’s also true that these games are mainly played on Origin and Battle.net.
Moreover, even long-standing Steam favorites like Fallout 4, Valheim, and Terraria are now merely left in the wake of Silksong as it speeds ahead.
The feedback: Impressive!
Unsurprisingly, the user reviews on Steam are predominantly enthusiastic. At the time of this writing, there are only  335 reviews (most likely still in-game), but an impressive 95 percent of them are favorable.
The accolades are plentiful: graphics, sound, ambiance, controls – but one aspect has some players feeling unsettled: the difficulty.
Beginners who haven’t experienced the first Hollow Knight may have been caught off guard by the tough difficulty. Yet even seasoned players are chiming in through Steam reviews, criticizing Silksong for being slightly too difficult in certain areas.
The fact that everything in this game deals double damage and the bench placements are just infuriating.
(Source)Having to wait several hours of gameplay just to be able to parry, dodge, and sprint is the most absurd nonsense I’ve encountered.
