"No Surrender!" - Sekiro Begins a Fresh Chapter as an Anime

From Game of the Year to Anime Masterpiece – Sekiro Embarks on a New Journey

When FromSoftware launched Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice in 2019, the studio boldly diverged from the conventional Souls gameplay to embrace a combative style rich in parries and accurate maneuvers. The gamble proved fruitful. Over 10 million copies sold and the Game of the Year accolade are testament to its success.

Now it makes a comeback – though in an unforeseen format. At gamescom 2025, a trailer for the anime adaptation titled Sekiro: No Defeat was revealed, set to debut exclusively on Crunchyroll next year. The grand narrative of Shinobi Wolf will be reimagined in a fully hand-drawn animation. Fans can anticipate a renaissance of the beloved tale crafted in the aesthetic of Japanese animation.

“A Colossal Challenge” – Grand Aspirations and High Hopes for Sekiro: No Defeat

The initiative is spearheaded by the emerging studio Qzil.la, which has previously engaged with series like Chainsaw Man and Hell’s Paradise on a limited basis. With Sekiro: No Defeat, the creative team is embarking on its inaugural significant endeavor. Director Kenichi Kutsuna expressed no uncertainty in a statement that something remarkable is forthcoming:

“We are undertaking the colossal challenge of animating the stunningly beautiful Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Our entire artistic vision and dedication to aesthetics are being infused into this production.”

Crunchyroll is also excited. Asa Suehira, Chief Content Officer of the streaming platform, highlighted:

“Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is renowned for its precision and intensity, and these attributes transition beautifully into this adaptation.”

The narrative remains true to the source material. Wolf, the Shinobi, must save his young master Kuro, who has drawn the attention of dark forces due to his enigmatic dragon lineage. A tale filled with treachery, sacrifice, and tough choices. And now all of this has been restructured in a form poised to enchant not only gamers but also anime enthusiasts worldwide.
