Upcoming Total War: Warhammer 3 DLC, "Tides of Torment," Postponed

Order is gradually reemerging in the domain of chaos – but not in the manner fans had envisioned. The “Tides of Torment” DLC for Total War: Warhammer 3 was anticipated for release this summer. Instead, we are now met with silence. At least, before the storm.

Creative Assembly has formally delayed the anticipated expansion. No new launch date, no preview – merely a concise statement indicating that the DLC currently falls short of the company’s quality criteria. The team has reported that internal evaluations raised concerns about whether “Tides of Torment” would uphold the standard of prior releases. The verdict: “In summary, no.”

The excitement was palpable: the studio had already unveiled the initial content in the spring. Alongside the serpent-like demon Dechala (Slaanesh), Sayl the Faithless was also set to feature as a warlock for the Norsca faction. Two entirely new factions, two innovative play styles – along with a nod to Chaos aficionados. Yet, that’s not on the agenda for now.

Total War: Warhammer 3 – DLC postponement impacts Tides of Torment

The revised timeline remains ambiguous: Creative Assembly does not foresee a release prior to autumn – October at the earliest. Instead, they plan to refine other core systems in the meantime. Enhancements to sieges will undergo testing in July, followed by much-needed modifications for Necrolytes and Lizardmen in August. The Orcs are also slated for a skill upgrade.

The studio will not be able to concentrate fully on the significant 7.0 update, including Tides of Torment, until September. One small piece of solace: the team is seemingly dedicating considerable effort behind the scenes on balancing, performance, and game depth – aspects that often suffer when only new content is prioritized.

And in case you overlooked it: the slasher reference in the title is intentional. Just like in a classic horror film, Tides of Torment does not strike when you anticipate it. It catches you off guard – with a twist that impacts harder than ever before.
