Information, images, and footage continue to emerge from the closed playtests of the upcoming Battlefield. A new clip provides a detailed look at the destructible environments.
Games frequently equip us with weapons that possess immense destructive capabilities, including rocket launchers or mini nuclear bombs. While we typically employ them to reduce our foes to mere particles, the explosions often lack a visible or significant impact on the gaming environment.
The Battlefield franchise, renowned for its destructible environments, takes a different approach. In Battlefield 6, vehicles, furniture, and buildings once again face destruction from gunfire and explosions. A leaked video now illustrates how this occurs in the ongoing test build.
Demolition experts in action
In just under five minutes, a player expertly dismantles half a map: strikes with an anti-tank missile cause entire building facades to collapse or create large holes in walls. The explosions scatter debris in all directions, damaging or destroying nearby vehicles, market stalls, and street lights.
However, even without heavy weaponry, there are numerous objects to demolish. Smaller items like air conditioning units, fans, and lamps can break after just a single shot from a pistol or rifle.
Upon closer inspection, though, the limitations of map destruction become evident. Washing machines and several other pieces of furniture appear nearly indestructible. Staircases also seem to be particularly robust, likely to ensure that ruined buildings remain accessible.
Official destruction features
Alongside the many leaks, there is also official information regarding how destruction will function in the next Battlefield, specifically from a blog post by the developers.
Among other things, updated sound effects will help indicate whether a building or wall can indeed be destroyed by gunfire. If the target suffers damage, initial impacts will be visibly noted before a wall entirely collapses. Additionally, debris from demolished structures will persist on the battlefield and can be utilized as cover. However, not much of this was visible in the footage.
Of course, we won’t truly understand the extent of destruction until the game is completed. Since Battlefield 6 is still in testing, many aspects could change prior to its launch. The shooter is set to debut in the first quarter of 2026 at the latest, although a release in November 2025 seems more probable.
