It has been established for a while that The Witcher 4 will be powered by Unreal Engine 5: CD Projekt Red announced a transition in the technical infrastructure for its titles back in 2022.
We are likely to learn more about this sooner than anticipated: The “cutting-edge technology behind The Witcher 4 and future projects” will be highlighted at the State of Unreal 2025 tech event, as shared by the developers in a post on X (previously Twitter).

The attached screenshot from CD Projekt Red seemingly presents a previously unseen section of The Witcher game universe and is expected to elevate fans’ anticipation that new information about The Witcher 4 will be disclosed tomorrow.
At the event in Orlando, Unreal developer Epic is set to reveal new live demonstrations, features, and videos to exhibit the latest functionalities of the forthcoming UE5 generations. Epic states:

The tweet has undoubtedly thrilled Witcher enthusiasts: “I’m absolutely thrilled! Even if it’s primarily an engine showcase, it’s still exciting to observe the game’s advancement,” remarks user Sevenblades.
The debut cinematic trailer for The Witcher 4 was unveiled in December 2024.
However, this does not imply that a release is around the corner: The actual development phase only commenced at the beginning of the year, thus a release in 2027 or 2028 at the earliest seems plausible.
