The remaster of the RPG has now brought the beloved YouTuber out of retirement. The initial two episodes are already a success.
The internet can often be a dismal space, filled with malicious individuals, heartbreaking tales, hazardous viruses, pirated versions, in short: yuck!
However, the internet can also be splendid. Just like Shirley Curry’s YouTube channel. Now, at the venerable age of 88, she has entertained us over the last few years as “Skyrim Grandma” with more than a hundred Let’s Play videos of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.
In fact, the delightful Shirley had previously stepped back from YouTube. Yet, she is now making her return for the remaster of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, and her first two videos already reveal why so many fans adore her.
Significantly slowed game speed
Those who have watched some of Ms. Curry’s earlier clips know that she plays at her own rhythm. Rather than racing through the storyline at breakneck speed and overlooking numerous elements, she appreciates every branch, every leaf, and every stone with the meditative calm and wisdom that comes with age.
At least until she is unexpectedly confronted by a wizard and a goblin he has summoned. Then the lively grandmother brandishes her axe and swiftly dispatches the creatures. Her pragmatic analysis of the event: “Hmm, I took them both out with one strike.”
She still harbors mixed feelings about Oblivion itself. Her two videos published so far are titled “I’m learning” and “I’m still learning,” which aptly captures the situation. Shirley is navigating the quirks of her playful yet very different Skyrim counterpart.
She frequently finds the movement and camera controls especially challenging. Or, as she expresses it, “Terrible movement… just terrible movement.”
As evident, Shirley Curry hasn’t lost any of her charm during her YouTube hiatus. The comments beneath the videos are filled with positive vibes.
